The New (Ab)Normal

May 2021
Acrylic and oil pastel on 11” x 14” canvas board, framed and mounted

Like most people who make art, I felt compelled to make something that spoke to enduring the global COVID-19 pandemic. This small series of four was the result: a darker, bio-inspired color palette in a general feeling of chaos, with a layer over them that speaks to the attempts to make careful order out of that chaos, and mostly not succeeding. I specifically wanted to make something that I felt could speak to this idea whether it was looked at today or several years from now, because I don’t feel we’ll ever return to what we think of as “normal”.

I had a specific idea of how these should be presented: mounted boards against a black backdrop and black mat in a black frame. They are mounted and framed without glass so as to have a more intimate view of the work.

”Under” has sold but the remaining three in the series are available via the KnackIt art buying site.
