Squak Mountain
2021
The forest trails of Squak Mountain near my home in the Cascade foothills provide endless inspiration. There is both a coziness and an openness to them. The aggressively-straight trees rise up into the sky like grand fence posts and the sun winks and wavers as it shines behind them. Trees rest on rough bluffs like fallen soldiers, new homes for the beings that live on the forest floor.
Like the work in “Halls of Mountains” I sought to show the “hidden channels” of information and energy that I feel walking through these forests and trails, but with a focus on color that both represented and exaggerated the PNW color scheme.
In this series I also explore tall compositions that convey the feeling of standing beneath the towering forest trees.
