Wyoming

2021
Ink on watercolor paper. 5.5” x 8.5”.

I lived in Wyoming for several years when I went to college there to study astrophysics, and while I feel like the PNW is truly home I’ll never forget the effect the Wyoming landscape had on me, and I still love it to this day. There is nothing like the giant expanse of the sky and the vast plains with the barest hints of details on them. I began a series of inks on small watercolor paper that reminded me strongly of the Wyoming landscape and some of the specific places I traveled while living there: highways 130 and 287, the trips to Mt. Jelm to work at the telescope. I did this small series as an homage to that landscape.

The work in this series is very personal and the originals are not for sale. Please let me know if you’re interested in prints should they become available.

Sketchbook Work

I did a lot of small thumbnail sketches that were the genesis of the Wyoming series. Sketching with the limitation of just black, burnt sienna, and burnt umber ink felt amazing — everything felt so crisp and clear.
