Probabilities

2021
Acrylic on canvas, plus sketchbook pages.

I kept sketching and painting dark scenes with green skies — and though they resemble the northern lights (which I’ve never seen), the images in my head were much more fantastical and unrealistic. I filled pages of my sketchbook with these, adding dots of light to the dark horizons, and feeling compelled to include the energetic marks of both black and white, like lights and shadows on a long exposure photo. So I decided to take these sketchbook pages onto canvas.

Some of these have been purchased by private collectors but some are still available.

Sketchbook Work

I really enjoyed playing in my sketchbook with these ideas. I was sure they weren’t going to work — they were incredibly dark, and I felt certain the green skies would just not look as good put down as they did in my head. But as I worked in my sketchbook on these they really unfolded into something I still enjoy looking at — they’re currently my go-to pages for inspiration.

This one definitely feels like a transition between Moss and the new series.

I wrote a lot of notes on this one. It felt like it was going in a great direction and I didn’t want to lose everything it made me think of.
